Shatta Wale explains why he did not perform at CAF Awards despite taking $30,000

Ghanaians haven’t given organizers of the just ended Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards a breathing space for their low representation of Ghanaian acts on the night.

Many have opined that the organizers disrespected Ghanaian acts by allowing their Nigerian counterparts a major representation on stage in an event organized in their home country.

The Awards ceremony which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), on Thursday, January 4, 2017, saw performances from about 5 Nigerians and only two acts from Ghana — Efya who opened the show with the National Anthem and KiDi who closed the show.

However, Shatta Wale who was announced as a performer on the night was conspicuously missing and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Speaking to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM’s ‘Showbiz Agenda’, Friday, Shatta Wale said there was no contract between him and CAF. He alleged that someone tried to play a smart one on him by engaging the organisers without the consent of his management.

According to him, the fellow whose identity he does not know, told his management that CAF was offering him $30,000 for the performance. Shatta Wale asserted that he saw the posture as disrespectful to his brand and therefore took the money as a gift.

“I don’t have a contract with CAF. Nobody had contacted me. Two days to the event, then someone contacted me that CAF is offering $30,000. I have worked with CAF before and I know they don’t do things like that. Some of us should be very careful in this country. We are killing ourselves. I need to be paid well. This is my home. I have taken the money and nobody can take it from me because I didn’t sign any contract with anybody. I don’t know why somebody can just go and collect $30,000, come and give it to me and tell me to go and perform while I’ve not seen my contract,” he said.

“When they (CAF) wanted me in Nigeria last year, they wrote emails two months to the event before we were able to seal a deal. We had a schedule. Here in Ghana, two days to the event, someone will call me and say he has $30,000, rush and come meet my manager. As a smart man, I’ll save the $30,000 first and that’s what I did. I then asked them to go and bring the contract to show who agreed that I take such an amount for a show of that nature. So disrespectful!” he fumed.

Despite the answer he gave, Shatta Wale said his manager convinced him to go perform but what irked him was the fact that he was not allowed to do sound-check.

“We were told we can’t have our sound check because they had closed. Meanwhile, the Nigerian acts had been allowed to do theirs. I drove my car and came back home. I don’t like nonsense!” he fumed again.

Tic Tac Made The Best Move For Walking Out Of Live TV Interview – Shatta Wale

In a sudden twist, award winning dancehall artist Shatta Wale has thrown his support behind Tic Tac for walking out of a live TV interview on GHOne TV.

On Friday, hiplife artist Tic Tac who is feuding with Shatta Wale proved that there was no room for reconciliation between the two when he walked out of GHOne TV studio during an interview on its morning show, GH Today.

Tic Tac who was on the show to promote his songs as well as the Ayalolo project got angry at the station when they decided to play Shatta Wale’s music video during his interview session.

“Are we showing Shatta’s video? Because I’m talking about him? I have new videos that should be showing. We cannot show Shatta’s video while I’m here talking about him. I didn’t come here to promote Shatta Wale” He quizzed the host Baisiwa Dowuona-Hammond

Some had expected that because of the feud between Tic Tac and Shatta Wale, the latter would blast him for what happened.

However, Shatta Wale in a Facebook post rather endorsed what Tic Tac did, saying it affirms the ideas he has been preaching for some time now.

“I think Tictac really made the best move ever. This is what i have been talking about. We should respect an artiste when he is your studios or on phone talking. How can you be asking about Shatta wale whilst Tic Tac is there. My plan is working. Ghana artiste lets free ourselves from the timidity and fear…we can do this ..but yo tictac tell your colleagues ,you people sleep too much..wake up !!! #changeiscoming,” Shatta wrote.

Shatta Wale and Tic Tac have been at each other’s throat after the former named the latter as part of artistes who are not smart.

Tic Tac however is getting ready to release his 7th album titled ‘Mama Grace.’
