An event organizer based in the Volta Region is threatening to drag dancehall artist Ebony to court for failing to show up for an event she was billed to perform.
According to the organizer, preparations were made towards the show and Ebony was paid prior to the event which was scheduled to take place on January 2 at Majestic Ville Resort in Hoehoe.
However, Ebony and her management failed to honor their part of the deal after being paid GHS20,000.
According to one of the organisers who spoke to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM, Ebony’s manager called him a few hours to the event when they were all set to inform him that the artist was sick and therefore wouldn’t be able to make an appearance.
The non-appearance of the Ebony which led to the cancellation of the whole concert would go a long way to affect the Volta Region-based company that produces alcoholic bitters, called “K Monsi Bitters,” the main sponsor and financier of the event.
He further explained that they had to refund the monies to the people who were at the event — over 1000 people received their GHC30 payment back as refunds, something they were forced to do to protect their image for future projects.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the fact that they spent huge sums of money on stage preparations and also on promotions prior to event. And even though management of Ebony had returned their money, it still doesn’t cover the other cost incurred, hence the law suit.
Ebony’s no show did not only cost them a lot in cash but they also suffered reputational damage since the people who gathered at the event were ardent event goers who have been regular patrons over the years.
Manager for Ebony, Bullet of Ruff and Smooth fame explained to Sammy Flex that he has refunded the GHS20,000 that was paid to them. He was however not willing to honor any payment which has to do with the cost of the stage preparation, lighting, advertisement and other consequential costs — since they were no such clauses like that stated in the contract signed.
Bullet however stressed that Ebony’s failure to show up for the event wasn’t deliberate as been speculated by the event organizers, however the artist was and is still sick and currently responding to treatment.
