10 Ghanaian Cover Songs Better Than The Originals

There are some songs that you don’t truly appreciate until another artist takes it on and makes it their own.

Sometimes the newer version of the song sounds so good that it makes you want to dust off the original.

Funny enough, often times a musician’s covered songs can eclipse their own work in popularity — a case of Gasmilla’s “Telemo” vrs Atom’s “Ye wo krom”.

Here are the 10 greatest cover songs—some of which improve on the originals.

1. Joe Mettle – Akokyem Nyame (Song originally written and performed by Cindy Thompson)

Award winning gospel musician Joe Mettle is well known for his ability to exhibit his musical prowess on medleys.

The reigning artist of the year did a cover of Cindy Thompson’s “Akokyem Nyame” and it’s classic.

2. SOLLO7 – Me Dofopa (Song originally written and performed by the Maestro Kojo Antwi)

SOLLO7 is a singer, songwriter and producer from Tema, Ghana. His passion to perform to a live audience has made him a Youtube sensation. He has made several covers of popular songs on his channel.

3. NARAH – Wo Da Enda (Song originally written and performed by Daasebre Gyamenah)

Singer Narah also makes a soulful rendition of Daasebre Gyamenah’s “Wo Da Enda” and it’s everything.

4.Nana Fofie –  Mashup 2.0 (Various Artists)

Nana Fofie is an amazing singer based in Holland. The 21 year old recording artist already has two mashup videos to her credit — and they’re both amazing.

The first of the mashups was done over Runtown’s song “Mad Over You” — fused incredibly together with other Nigerian songs.

The second are songs from various artists such as Maleek Berry – Kontrol, Patoranking – No Kissing Baby ft. Sarkodie,Mr Eazi – Leg Over ft Wizkid ,R2Bees – Makoma and others.

She has a soft beautiful voice that makes these covers sound amazing.

Here is a cover version of the dynamic duo R2bees hit song ‘walaahi’ by Stars of The Future winner Yaa Yaa fomerly known as Bertha, featuring female rapper and radio presenter Caroline Sampson.
The song titled ‘Life’ was produced by Genius Selection and it gives you the cool version of R2bees ‘Walahi’ song.

6. RennerLive- Ayoo (Originally written and performed by Shatta Wale)

Renner Live delivers a very sensational rendition of Shatta Wale’s hit single Ayoo featuring Poetyk Prynx.

Soulful singer Adomaa is widely known for recording many mashup songs of popular songs from Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and others. She caught the attention of Ghanaians including Stonebwoy after she did a mashup of his popular song “Baafira”. The sensational singer we now know as Adomaa was born as Joy Onyinyechukwu Adomaa Serwaa Adjeman to a Ghanaian father and Nigerian mother in Kaduna, Nigeria. The Afro-Jazz singer was crowned the 2016 Unsung Artiste of the year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
